Rain, Rain, Go Away!!

After 20 straight days of tropical-like rain storms (do we live in Florida???), I am sure that we are all looking forward to a weekend of cooler temperatures, sunshine and ART!!!  Yes, there are LOTS of great things to do this weekend that feature the arts and artists/crafters of Central Ohio.

First, let me tell you about a little art event that is happening in the Polaris area, actually at the Polaris Starbucks store.  One of their employees, Lisa Des Jardin, is planning on riding one of the Pelotonia routes in August and has put together a  “I Love Art on the Walk” featuring several Columbus artists’ works.  She organized this to begin collecting her $1200 entry fee to Race for the Cure in this 4- year- old event.  A limited edition photographic print by her daughter, Jessica DesJardin, will be raffled on Saturday July 13th…a gorgeous black and white photo of a tiger from the Columbus Zoo.  To learn  more about the Pelotonia and how you can contribute or volunteer, go to http://www.pelotonia.org.  In the meantime, come out to support Lisa in her efforts and enjoy your favorite beverage at Starbucks (I’ll be getting a green tea frap!!)  Hours are 9:00 am-1:00pm on July 13 and July 20 2013.

The Second First-of-its-Kind event is the Ohio Art League’s  Ohio Made at the Ohio Historical Village.  A number of artists/crafters that I know will be there not only selling their fantastic works but giving demos. Ohio Made is a marketplace made up of Ohio artists and craft vendors, combined with a juried art exhibition awarding prizes for top entries. The event will also feature live music, food vendors and the Ohio History Center’s exhibit 1950s: Building the American Dream .

The show will feature the following artists that I know:

Whitney Dirks-Schuster of Time and Trilobites and Jamie Mosley of Jamie Mosley Studios will be sharing a booth with paintings and Whitney’s upcycled  robots, creatures, jewelry and much more

Jennifer Sadler of Jennifer Sadler Designs will be selling her fabulous jewelry

Martina Rostorfer Morton of Potter Heaven will be selling her ceramics/pottery creations

Audra and Sandy Minter of Crazy Craft N Ladies will be selling both knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories

Nikki  Rehmert of Once Upon a Time, Again and Clip on the Charm will be selling her upcycled journals/books and her new clip-on jewelry

Kelly Zalenski of KLZArt will be selling her onesies, twosies and lots of fun children’s wear

Julia McCann of My Speaker Box will be selling her art work

Those are just the folks I know but I am sure that there will be loads of other talented people there selling and demonstrating must-have Ohio made items!

Hours are 11-6 on Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday.

And, last, but not least, will be the Westerville Chamber of Commerce’s  40th Annual Westerville Music and Arts Festival at Heritage Park and Everal Barn on Cleveland Avenue on Saturday and Sunday. Two stages will feature area musicians every hour throughout the event.  There will also be a youth entertainment tent with hands-on art and a variety of demos for children to keep little hands busy.  Booths will feature a variety of local and national artisans and here are the people I know who will be vending:

Cobenik Studios with Daniel Colvin and Rocky Lawton featuring hand crafted papers and books

Beaniestalk with Teresa Clow featuring lovely hair adornments and cute things for little (and big!) girls

River Wolfe Art Jewelry with River Wolfe featuring one-of-a-kind mostly polymer clay jewelry, lots of which celebrates our furry friends!

Vintage Vamp with Teresa Morbitzer featuring unique necklaces, earrings, bracelets made from found objects (buttons, watch parts, keys, lovely beads and more!)

The Westerville Chamber of Commerce estimates that nearly 20,000 people attend this fun-filled event each year so it is definitely a place to be!

Hours are 11-8 Saturday and 11-5 on Sunday.

So, there should be no “there’s nothing to do:(” complaints this weekend in the Cowtown!!!  Get yourself out there, enjoy some grand weather, yummy food, unique art and music and support local artisans on the 13th and 14th!  Hope to run into you somewhere!!
