I am so excited to say that Aisha Echols of Sweet Simpliciteas (and my first featured artist!) is the winner of the incubator retail space in downtown (South Third St.) Columbus from EDIC and the KickStart Columbus Program!!! Woot! She had some stiff competition but her hard work paid off. I love her teas and am so very excited for her as she starts this new venture!
KickStart Columbus narrowed its second business plan competition to four companies, with the prize of a year’s free rent up for grabs. KickStart debuted in January with Columbus City Council teaming with the Economic and Community Development Institute, Capital Crossroads Special Improvement District and Capitol South Community Urban Redevelopment Corp. as a way to promote entrepreneurship and job creation.
The four finalists were:
- Sweet Simpliciteas- a tea company that specializes in artisan blends, currently sold at the Angry Baker in Olde Towne East, Celebrate Local in Easton and several other local retailers.
- Team Chipmunk- which sells children’s clothing handmade in Central Ohio.
- Headshots Columbus– a photography studio.
- Columbus Fashion Incubator- a retail outlet for locally designed fashion and a resource center for independent designers.
Although the other entrepreneurs did not win the competition, they are winners of much help from the above mentioned organizations and have been earmarked for great things! Congratulations to all of them!
