urban scrawl

Urban Scrawl is a free, 2-day festival presented by the Franklinton Arts District at 400 West Rich featuring the live creation of murals by Columbus artists, performances by local musicians, DJs, and dancers. Since 2006 Urban Scrawl has provided Columbus artists a way to flex their creative muscle and participate in Central Ohio’s largest ongoing urban renewal project. Each year the number of participants, panels, sponsors and attendees grows making this a landmark summer event in Columbus, Ohio.

Once the panels are completed they are weather sealed and mounted in cooperation with Franklinton businesses to help enliven the re-growing community of Franklinton, Central Ohio’s historic first settlement. Panels not hung are auctioned off at Go West! to raise money for arts grants outreach programs in the neighborhood.

This year Urban Scrawl is Saturday, August 23rd from noon to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 24th from noon to 6:00 p.m.

CrestFest is a neighborhood block party but SO MUCH MORE. CrestFest was started in 2010 by 3 couples on the 100 block of Crestview as aneighborhood block party, but it had a few bands even that year!In 2011 they broadened the party to two blocks, and 2012 Columbus’ Art Party joined the planned and we expanded to the 4 blocks we havenow. Now going on its 5th year, its become a Street Party with TWO stages with localartist booths, food vendors and lots and lots of kid activities!

CrestFest is funded by sponsorships from local businesses, a raffle and merchandise sales. Still planned by a group of only 8 people, CrestFest is looking to get additional volunteers to help out for next year’s party!! CrestFest is now a sponsored project of the Clintonville-Beechwold Resources Center and as such a 501(c)(3), and all donations are tax deductible.

Build Community.

We want to bring together creative women in Columbus for SO many reasons. To inspire. To encourage. To support. To impact our community. It’s that simple. We just want a genuine space for women to share their struggles, successes, and ideas. Let’s get together and figure this thing out.

We’re not totally sure what this is going to be, but we like the idea of; bringing in speakers, doing something meaningful for the community with our talents, building a support system, becoming healthier as individuals as well as a whole.

We want to be authentic, genuine, inclusive. Come drink Manhattans with us!

UPDATE:

RAIN OR SHINE (cross your fingers for shine) Creative Babes is happening!!

Due to the high volume of responses (YAY!!), we’ll be unable to provide enough whiskey for all, but we’re prepping a Make-Your-Own-Manhattan bar with all the fixins, so please BYOW (bring your own whiskey) or any beverage of your choice, of course.

Here is the schedule of the event. Which by the way, is a casual backyard shindig, so please feel free to come as you are (because you’re a babe!!).
