Matthew King’s paintings could be described as existential. His canvases give a sense of cold landscapes and rarely–traversed spaces. King explains the work as conveying the search for a place of stability in a world where there is constant flux; despite our human tendencies to be creatures of habit who enjoy security, situations are constantly changing. The future is often daunting, sometimes seeming to be rife with possibilities, but at other times appearing cloudy or even empty.
King received his BFA from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in June 2014. A Cincinnati native, he is using his residency time at Second Sight to transition into a permanent move to Columbus.
Dark Love: Fables and Foibles
The Vanderelli Room
From the time we are very young we hear stories about true love. Whether this is through families telling cultural tales, or children’s movies, we are all taught fairly early to believe that “Love conquers all”. What though, is the price of that love? Most times, the stories we hear and have been watered down over the course of time to make them less frightening, and more palatable to our sensitive young minds.
This show will have none of that.
Fables and Foibles will bring to life the darker side of your favorite myths, fairy tales and legends. Come see what lies in the dark recesses of the hearts of 20 hand picked artists whose styles and interpretations are sure to remind you that Love has a price.

The Evolution of Stripes
Fresh A.I.R. Gallery presents new paintings by Michael J. Halliday in his solo exhibition The Evolution of Stripes.
The Evolution of Stripes is a never-before-exhibited body of work chronologically illustrated in Fresh A.I.R.’s elongated gallery, all created within the last 7 months. These large scale, abstract acrylic paintings on canvas have developed from Halliday’s earlier paintings of edges.
Halliday began painting again after moving back to Ohio from California in April of 2011. He is grateful for his ability to access his true self and creativity, despite his battle with depression, and celebrated 30 years of sobriety in 2014.
Michael Halliday will close his exhibition The Evolution of Stripes with an artist talk on Friday, April 10 from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
