Dana Oldfather: Too Soft
Angela Meleca Gallery
Thursday September 17th
5- 7 p.m.
Angela Meleca Gallery is pleased to kick-off it’s third year by showcasing Cleveland based artist Dana Oldfather in her first solo exhibition in Columbus, Ohio.
Oldfather, a self-taught artist born and raised in Northeast Ohio, began her painting career over a decade ago. She started out exhibiting photo-realistic paintings depicting her urban surroundings. Over time the landscapes became more abstract with only a few years ago the work completely devoid of the figure.
In Too Soft, featuring Oldfather’s most recent abstract works, the artist reacts to the life altering experience of becoming a first-time mother. Oldfather has created a body of work demonstrative of the anxiety and frustration of rearing small children, and the struggle for work/life balance as a primary care giver.

Friday 6 p.m.
The title of Larry Doyle‘s show is “Those Magic Moments” …reexamine movie posters and find a different way to express those one or two great moments from a film that further the plot or make you fall in love with said character. Most posters incorporate many or all of the characters from the film, including a basic scene to really give you a sense of the films entirety. He wanted to extract a certain character, underlying theme or a specific dialogue from each film and recreate it as seen by me.
This show pushed him to combine all of his styles and learned techniques and push them into new realms. This new body of work showcases his favorite films and moments in a way that starts a conversation and speaks to the viewer!
