First Thursdays: Paul Richmond
The Evansville Museum & the Begley Museum Shop present our quarterly First Thursday series. First Thursdays are a meet and greet with an artist during Happy Hour. Artwork will be on display and for sale in the Evansville Museum’s Eykamp Pavilion. This First Thursday will feature Paul Richmond.
Paul Richmond is an internationally recognized visual artist and activist who challenges social constructs that exist around gender and identity. In his War Paint series, reality and abstraction compete within the figurative foundation of each piece to make the subjects’ inner struggles more tangible, the color of their self-made armor exposing more than it conceals. The paintings invite understandings that reach beyond the immediate surface and reveal the complexity of the individual.

Kate on Color Studies: “In this collection, I am striving to capture fleeting moments in time. Some of the pieces are character studies in color. Others are emotional representation of an event as seen in two dimensions. … This is my interpretation of my feelings and capturing how these feelings colored my worldview. To me, what moves this work beyond personal art therapy is that the level of abstraction is mindfully applied.”

In Maggie’s own words, “My work explores the color, form, and light in subjects that captivate me. Much of my work is painted on large canvases in acrylics with incorporated interference and metallic paints. My work is a testament to the sometimes harsh reality that in order to bloom, you must endure the deepest of freezes to push through “life’s dirt” and experience it’s beauty.
