Upstairs Art Space

Whitney and Ventola Music Studios

Opening Reception: Adrian Sibley

Friday April 15th

4:30- 7:30 p.m.

Events at the Upstairs Art Space at Whitney and Ventola Music Studios are back in full swing with a new exhibit by emerging Columbus, Ohio artist Adrian Sibley. Originally from the inner city of Chicago, Adrian takes his inspiration from music – listening to everything from 90’s hip-hop to Portishead to Black Flag and the Bad Brains. A lab tech by day, his nights are spent digging into his memories and putting them down on canvas with raw visceral color, painting as if “Jackson Pollock was a black punk rock kid who had been shot at several times (through no fault of his own)”. Two Father’s Days ago he asked his wife to buy him a paint set and it ballooned to where he is today.

A reception for the artist will be held during a happy hour event on Friday, April 15th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the Upstairs Art Space (3528 North High Street), hosted by Boxland Media and Whitney & Ventola Music Studios. Live music will be provided by Annalisa Ventola, Composer/Performer and Christopher Whitney. The open house event is free and open to the public.

Gathered: Ed Valentine, Opening Reception

Saturday April 16th

6-8 p.m.

Angela Meleca Gallery is pleased to present Gathered, Ed Valentine‘s second solo show in the gallery. The exhibition features 17 works highlighting Valentine’s long career as a painter.
Often referred to as a ‘painter’s painter’, Valentine’s practice has always centered on making work which include all elements that build a painting; color, texture, line and form. The works appear both complex and accessible, full of reference to art history. Valentine doesn’t paint a point-of-view and he is not interested in taking art beyond esthetics. In the work, there is a focus not to overload, confound or convolute. They are rather, about composition and orchestration.
The exhibition runs April 16 – May 21, 2016.
