City Center Gallery invites the public to attend a public reception celebrating the exhibition, Natural Worlds. Light refreshments will be provided.
Charles Porter and
Through their treatment of color, shape, and texture, Charles Porter and Larry Ross create two-dimensional planes through which onlookers are free to navigate. While their pieces are largely nonobjective, they are emotionally charged due to their use of intuitive mark-making. Through their work, Porter and Ross draw viewers into pigmented worlds they have created. Viewers traverse these naturally-inspired worlds based on little more than visual interpretation of space. Ultimately, they serve as a cartographers to worlds unknown, but deserving of exploration.
Natural Worlds is in conjunction with Open Door Art Studio. Open Door Art Studio empowers artists with disabilities to develop unique, artistic voices and to experience opportunities afforded through the arts. We believe that creativity knows no boundaries and that all individuals deserve an environment for “expression without limitation.”
“Eres un Princeso”: Patricia Dominguez
Welcome Chilean artist Patricia Dominguez for a special artist talk and preview of her large-scale video installation “Eres un Princeso”. The rich and compelling video is an investigation of Spanish horses once owned by Colombian drug lords. The work reflects upon the meanings invested in the animals as powerful possessions and remnants of a colonial past. Not only do the horses take on a quasi-mythical status thanks to their associations with a criminal culture, they are celebrated for their otherness as animals that differ due to their gait and style of presentation.
RECEPTION FOR ARTIST IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWS THE ARTIST TALK
Complimentary for Pizzuti Collection members and students

Ohio Art League X Space: Wilburscapes- The lonely Landscapes of Paul D. Wilbur\
400 West Rich
Wilburscapes – The Lonely Landscapes of Paul D. Wilbur will feature black and white photographs by Paul D. Wilbur, curated by Mark Fohl.
These photographs by artist Paul D. Wilbur portray a stunning solitude, both sharp and expansive. Do these images contemplate a dying Americana in the 21st century? There are no people here, but some evidence of humankind, the landscapes uninhabited, urban and outland.
The photos examine isolation, barriers, fences, a porch without stairs, while also witness to a luring connection. Sometimes that contact is indirect or confusing, other times it is more certain: utility poles or railroad tracks. At times the photos suggest the past, but carefully question nostalgia with traces of a harsh reality. Still, somehow these photos seem strangely comfortable. Is this how people used to be or have now chosen to be? Is this the absence of connection or a revision of what it means to be connected? Are these images of rise or ruin?
Gallery hours are the second Friday of every month from 7-10pm (Franklinton Fridays), Saturdays 12pm-6pm and by appointment.
The June installment of the 400 Market located at 400 West Rich during Franklinton Fridays.
