934 Gallery: Solitary Nation

Saturday June 18th

6-11 p.m.

934

934 Gallery invites you to an original event: Solitary Nation, featuring the sculptural works of artist Holly Wilson and the fashion creations of Jasimine Agape Pennywell. This singular collaboration fuses each artist’s vision into a dynamic societal exploration and discussion.
“An electronic noise envelops us as we live closely packed together in a society of constant presentation and upkeep. My work amplifies this noise – bluntly asking its audience to reconsider. Acting as a threshold of consciousness, my work is a process that moves the viewer from one way of thought to another. As the rest of society is passively choked by the man, living in repetition through stereotypes and false realities, a new generation will assemble.
Constantly probed to post and comment on every product, place, and emotion we encounter, I want the work to transcend these pressures, and reconnect with reality. Working in an excessive compulsive, I react to these human calamities as a personal outlet.”
Holly Wilson, Vapid Conventionalities
“The acquisition of stuff overtakes the acquisition of self. Striving for perfection creates the world’s madness as we push for ‘The Dream Society’ and perpetuate the consumption of vanity. Living inside the white picket fence … I dream of a world … of consumption.”
Jasimine Agape Pennywell, World of Agape
Saturday, June 18, from 7 pm – 11 pm (VIP entry @ 6 pm) and become a part of this visceral exploration.
Tickets available now via Eventbrite (http://tiny.cc/SolitaryNation):
VIP – $50, includes private cocktail hour 6 pm – 7 pm catered by Chef Miguel Martinez; meet and greet; artists’ speech and Q&A; swag bag.
General Admission – $20 presale, $30 at the door; doors open at 7 pm.

Skylab Gallery: Airbrush Naivete

Saturday June 18th

7-10 p.m.

skylab

Jack Felgate and Chris Kerr open Airbrush Naiveté this weekend at Skylab Gallery. We will be open from 7 – 10 pm.
‘Airbrush Naiveté’ features the works of artists Chris Kerr (US) and Jack Felgate (UK) alongside each other for the first time.
Having never met face to face the two artists discovered an affinity for 80’s metal album covers and John Fahey’s American primitivism in a series of emails before founding a movement ‘Airbrush Naiveté’.
‘Airbrush Naiveté’ aims to combine Felgate’s semi realism and Kerr’s ‘Neo Country’ aesthetic, focusing on both the multi-disciplinary artists’ uncanny appetite for airbrush paintings. Plummeting the murky depths of nihilism, Felgate and Kerr both resurface with a repertoire of crude, brooding yet comical paintings. Too funny to be taken seriously, too dark to be taken simply as a joke, the pair find unity in their ability to make light of mankind’s inevitable doom.
