Celebrate the vibrant culture of local film making with our annual festival of Ohio-made short films. All entries are produced in the Buckeye State and span documentary, animation, dramatic narrative, and everything in-between. The festival includes jury and audience-awarded cash prizes, which will be announced at a public reception in our lower lobby following the screening that features a free Dirty Franks hot dog bar (complete with vegan and gluten-free options, tater tots, and more) and a cash bar for you to enjoy.

The Urban Art Experience (UAE) continues to celebrate the great works by African American artists with Conversation Pieces: Art by Y. Aileen, Ludie Senatus, and Wyatt E. Hicks . A portion of the proceeds from the art sales will benefit Urban Strings, a Columbus based youth orchestra of young talented musicians from public and private schools throughout Columbus metro.
The mission of the UAE is to create and provide a venue for artist to showcase their works among art supporters and new audiences. In addition, the UAE addresses the need for increased arts accessibility in the African American community.

CMoA will kick-off the season of 21 Art Walks & Landmark Talks on Monday, May 2 in the Discovery District beginning at the Columbus Museum of Art. Join in conversations every week during these free, hour-long guided tours led by expert historians and guides on Mondays from 7-8 p.m. No registration necessary – just show up at the meeting place with your walking shoes on & your water bottle!
CMA Deputy Director Sarah Rogers, and DesignGroup Director & Designer Michael Bongiorno AIA, LEED AP BD+C will lead us off with insight about the design and impact of the new Margaret M. Walter Wing. Jeff Hogan & our friends at 10TV Commit To Be Fit will join the fun!

The Business of Art: Using The Art Community & The Greater Columbus Arts Council

If you are an artist in Franklin County – you need to come to this FREE workshop to hear about what the Arts Council can do for you! Speaker: Ruby Harper, GCAC – Director of Grants & Services

As Grants & Services Director for the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Ruby Harper has over 8 years of experience working with individual artists to help connect them to grant programs and support services provided by the Arts Council. The Greater Columbus Arts Council is the primary funding entity for artists and arts organizations in Columbus. GCAC launched five new funding opportunities in 2013 and has implemented four new programs in 2014, an increase of $120,000 for new grant awards and a total investment of $80,000 in other new programs.

A career in the arts can be sustainable with the right base knowledge. Join us as we present a free monthly workshop series designed to educate young professional artists on career development, art-centric entrepreneurship and provide a place for creative network building.

As director, Ruby provides support to the grants and services department, which includes the Operating and Project Support Grants programs, and the Artist in the Community program. She also provides the Arts Council with national exposure as a representative of the Emerging Leaders Council of the Americans for the Arts and as a recent grant panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts. She maintains an active role with Grantmakers in the Arts and PhilanthropyOhio. She has served on a number of grant panels for the Ohio Arts Council, Kentucky Arts Council, Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts. Ruby has also served as a juror for the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition and VSA Ohio Statewide Touring Exhibition. Her work experience has given her exposure to a variety of industries, sectors and operational functions which include corporate/non-profit work environments, human resources and recruiting, investor relations, community relations, marketing and promotion, office management and grant-making.

**These FREE workshops are sponsored by the Create Columbus Commission and are held at Wild Goose Creative on every third Thursday of the month from October through May, will include presentations by professionals with local nonprofits and businesses. Our food sponsor is Alchemy Juice Bar + Cafe.

83 Gallery South presents “Deck the Walls” opening this Saturday, December 14th, from 5-11pm at 476 S. Front St. next to Double Happiness in the Brewery District. The exhibition will feature a Pabst Blue Ribbon SkateDeck Series, featuring decks designed by ten of 83 Gallery’s best resident artists. In addition, the December opening will be stacked with the diverse styles of over thirty local artists, making it easy to find the perfect local holiday gift. The event will also feature live tarot readings by Vince Heitz-Hadorn, and the deck-spinning RaymondTVinyl.
